July 15 (7:00 PM): SHOWCASE FEATURE with Katerina: Ban-Dal takes over the Coffee Haven once again. You've loved them in the past. You'll love them now!

July 22 (7:00 PM): Shimmy Showcase: Saviya presents guest dancers. Including Eshta, Linda, Abraiha,Melema, and Dejah.

July 29 (7:00 PM): ALL FUSION NIGHT: Kashmir presents an evening of alternative music and all fusion performances, including Jannah, Najah, Olu, Ilana, Kali Sundari, Akasha Starr and Lotus Flower.

Aug 5 (7:00 PM): Shimmy Showcase: Katerina presents Alli Ruth, Rebecca, Shannon, Sina, Wendy, Genie and Lindsay.

Aug 12 (7:00 PM): BURNING BELLIES: This year we Green the Man. Our annual exodus to the high reaches of the Nevada desert is kicked off by this unusual event. Alexiis is pleased to present Katherine, Amber from The Om Girls,Jenn Knott, and Mercy from Troupe Oojham!
Aug 19 (7:00PM):Shimmy Showcase with Katherine the Great: Including performances by Monique, Mary Lena and more. Contact us if you’d like a spot!!
Aug 26 (7:00PM) SHOWCASE FEATURE: Tribal Takeover with Kashmir : Join us as Marjhani and Troupe Oojham! take over the coffee haven.

MID-SUMMERS DREAM V!

Wow!
Whatta night!
Every year I invite in the Solstice with my friends and family at the Shimmy Showcase. It is my way of performing the rites of the season to honor the blessings and abundance of my seeds planted earlier in the sprintime thaw. I usually know that the show will rock hard but last night.....

My expectations were dashed on the rocks of excellence and raised even higher! The lovely ladies of Talisman Dance company from the far reaches of San Diego blew our minds. The grace, energy and sensual yumminess touched us all. Fierce brought in such power and never seems to disappoint. Her partner for the evening, Elizabeth is a powerhouse of lightness and joy. We all were blessed to have them both at their debut at the Shimmy Showcase

.Airleah nearly hovered with her light and lovely interpretations of two fine classics; She also was surprised by a birthday cake that magically appeared at the end of the evening.

Finally, but most certainly not the least in my heart and mind this morning, my students performed not one, not two, not three but FOUR times to delight us all. The duet between Candacee and Tamara was clean crisp and well put together <without my assistance, I might add!> The trio with Annette, Jenivive and myself was so much fun but the biggest blast of the evening was when we all took the carpets and danced ensemble! 7 dancers in all, the largest group I have ever danced with in the little Coffee Haven and boy did we fill up the room!

Needless to say, last night will live long in my mind. Thanks to Cipperly, Candace, Tamara, Jen, Annette and Jewelles, you are all so precious to me. Additionally, I cannot begin to express my thanks and gratitude to the ladies and gentlemen who have been a support to us all. Thank you Eric for being the kind of Emcee a girl dreams of..... And Kevin...well without you we'd be dancing in the streets!

Burning Bellies!

Thank you for such a great show last night. Your performances were outstanding, as well as those from the other dancers. The thing I like the best is the way you all used belly dance as a mechinism for expressing the artistic vision, and not the other way round. I'm so bad with names - could you list all of them? I remember Ivy with her ballet-influenced dance - awesome. And the poi girls. And Steve on the cello was incredible.

Really a great night. I really enjoyed myself and look forward to Burning Man!

Happy Halloween!!

Last night was the Annual All Hallows Eve Bash at the Coffee Haven. I had the pleasure and honor of dancing there again. All I can say is that I was so happy to be dancing with so many goregeous and talented women. As always Alexiis completely transfixed me and the audience with her graceful beauty and dance. I watched her first dance through a Requiem piece (stunning in its quiet sadness) then go into a wonderfully spirited improv. Again I was humbled by her seamless movements as she lovingly danced her way across the floor spinning a web of delight. I was completely transfixed - yet again. Thank you Alexiis, for having me dance with you again - I always treasure the experience. I've posted a bunch of photos from last night I hope everyone enjoys them. It was great to see Mahalia and Miriyem again - they are always inspirational, and it was equally great to meet yet another dancer Foxy. It was a magical evening.

Thanks for the showcase last Sunday Alexiis. Sorry I couldn't wait to say goodbye. I had to drive back to Tarzana and get up much too early for work the next day.

I hope to see the "Cat Dance" again someday. It was wonderful at Cairo!
